As you may have already guessed, Lauren is an outstanding AmeriCorps*VISTA member! The AmeriCorps*VISTA Flood Recovery Program challenges all members to exhibit exemplary motivation and initiative. Lauren has established this blog to help you to better understand the work being done in the Cedar Rapids community to “Fight Poverty with Passion.” While the Flood of 2008 caused a shift in focus to more immediate needs of the community, the VISTA Program sponsored by Community Corrections Improvement Association has several projects that Lauren will seek to highlight throughout her year of service. If you find something that you are interested in, we would be happy to put you to work! Filing taxes for those with low to moderate incomes, painting homes that are not currently up to code, collecting clothing donations, and of course working to rebuild homes…the list of volunteer possibilities is ENDLESS!
Kudos to Lauren and the entire team for their 24/7 dedication to improving the lives of Cedar Rapidians!
