VISTA Flood Recovery
Record-setting flooding during mid-June 2008 drastically impacted the Cedar Rapids-Iowa City, Iowa, area, often referred to as the Corridor. Thousands of Corridor residents have experienced a significant loss of their homes, possessions, and business viability and face health risks and displacement hardships. As the city struggles to rebuild, there is an immense need for resource allocation and assistance.
While much of the mucking is done in Cedar Rapids, the recovery and rebuild efforts continue. Year long VISTA members provide leadership to this effort. Emphasis is on coordinating rebuild effort, identifying the changing needs of the community, expansion of neighborhood resource centers, developing partnerships, building coalitions and securing resources.
